An event in Indianapolis this weekend will help central Indiana students learn valuable financial skills.

The second annual YES To Our Future Youth Economic Leadership Summit is hosted by the Indianapolis Chapter of Jack and Jill of America, Inc. Organizers say teaching young people financial literacy is one of the best ways to keep Americans from problems like debt, poor money management and bankruptcy. The summit is particularly aimed at African-Americans. Organizers say African-American young people spend twice as much for high-end, trendy items as their peers in other ethnic groups.

The Saturday summit will focus on money management, business ownership and how to become leaders. Indiana entrepreneur Kenneth Allen will be the keynote speaker. He says he will focus on telling kids that they don't have to wait until they graduate from college to start their own businesses and begin amassing wealth.

Participants will be able to open their own savings accounts on-site with only $5 to begin on the path toward better financial management.
