Decatur County Launches New IT Learning Initiative

Decatur County has launched a new broadband technology learning initiative. "Bring IT Home Indiana- Decatur County" is a pilot program allowing area youth to serve as technology ambassadors. The initiative also includes a public Wi-Fi Hotspot and computer center located at the New Point Community Center.

NEW POINT, Ind – Today, Lt. Governor Becky Skillman helped launch a new broadband technology learning initiative called "Bring IT Home Indiana- Decatur County."

Bring IT Home Indiana- Decatur County is the second of three Hoosier communities to launch pilot projects based on program elements developed by the global not-for-profit One Economy Corporation and the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs.

"To meet the challenges of today's competitive business and learning environment, it's essential for rural communities to use broadband technology," said Lt. Governor Skillman. "This innovative program will serve as an economic driver for the county."

Each of the pilot programs features Digital Connectors, a program in which local youth serve as technology ambassadors to help their hometowns adopt a culture of technology and digital information use. In addition to the Digital Connectors program, Decatur County’s Bring IT Home program also features a public Wi-Fi Hotspot and computer center located at New Point Community Center which was also debuted at today’s event.

The program is made possible through the collaborative efforts of several local organizations, including the Economic Development Corporation of Greensburg/Decatur County, Enhanced Telecommunications Corporation, the Indiana Office of Community and Rural Affairs, One Economy Corporation, EcO15 and the Decatur Co. Community Foundation.

The Bring IT Home program utilizes resources, programming, and expertise that has been proven successful in driving rural economic success through technology across the United States.
